Four hot air balloons took off from Israel’s Ben Gurion airport on Saturday (July 25) morning as flights were halted for the unprecedented event.
Permission for the four hot air balloons to take off from the airport’s runway was given due to the small number of planes taking off and landing in Ben Gurion’s airport amid a coronavirus outbreak.
According to Israeli media, the Airport Authority closed the airspace above the airport for the event, which many aviation enthusiasts gathered to watch.
Most flights at the airport had already been halted due to the pandemic, save for a handful of daily passenger and cargo services.Israel has not said when it will end COVID-19 border restrictions.
With a population of 9 million, Israel has reported more than 59,475 coronavirus cases and 448 deaths.
